Ghost Summer Cover & Illustration Concept
For the final project in an English class exploring "Fantasies of Childhood," I created a cover design and illustration concepts for one of the stories we read. "Ghost Summer" by Tananarive Due is a ghostly horror story, exploring the dark history of racism in the American South and how its memories still haunt a modern Black family. I used a dark, desaturated palette and a digital static brush for the cover, to capture the atmosphere of the pivotal scene in which the protagonists first encounter the ghosts. My sketches of two potential illustrations played with perspective and framing to emphasize the horror elements.
